Water Testing on the Black River: Below are the water tests results for Black River Swimming holes for Aug. 8. Anything above 235 CFU is considered unsafe for recreational purposes. Note that these areas were tested after a heavy rain, when it is more likely that Ecoli levels will be higher than normal. Greven Field and Little Ascutney Falls registered “unsafe” for recreational purposes.
Cavendish Gorge 154 CFU (safe)
Greven Field 260 CFU (unsafe)
Buttermilk Falls 81CFU (safe)
Little Ascutney Falls 260 CFU (unsafe)
Upper Falls Rd Weathersfield 99 (CFU)
Please note that swimming is not recommended after a heavy rain. Thank you Black River Action Team for your continue dedication to the Black River and the safety of those who use it.
Night Paving to Cause Disruption on 1-91: An ongoing paving project on Interstate 91 between Brattleboro and the Massachusetts state line is going to cause some traffic disruption. The night paving beginning the week of Aug. 12 means that northbound and southbound on/off ramps from Exit 1 to Exit 3 will need to be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. The Brattleboro Reformer reports the different exits will be closed at different times and the closures may last from two to three hours. The closures are weather dependent.
2. CAVENDISH CONCERT : Sensible Shoes: The Town of Cavendish and the Cavendish Community and Conservation Association invite everyone to spend an evening listening to the sounds of Sensible Shoes on the Proctorsville Green on Wednesday, August 15th at 6:00 p.m.
Sensible Shoes is a returning regular to the Proctorsville Green and is always warmly welcomed to the gazebo. The four members are drummer and singer Steve Drebber, lead guitarist and singer Tim Utt, bass guitar and vocalist Pooh Sprague, and Barbara Blaisdell on keyboard.
This will be the last of this year’s regularly scheduled concerts that are held on consecutive Wednesday nights in July and August and will be sponsored by Outer Limits Brewery in Proctorsville. However, due to previous rain postponements, there will be more concerts in August this year. On August 22, Rick Redington and the Luv will perform.
Cavendish encourages all area residents and visitors to join their friends and neighbors in front of the gazebo on the green. Bring a blanket or a comfortable chair, have a picnic, or just lie back and relax on the grass. It’s a fun way to enjoy the summer weather and either reconnect with old friends or make new ones.
As always, the concerts are free and open to all. For more information please call Robin at 226-7736. In the event of rain, postponement information will be reflected on the Cavendish Facebook page.
