1. CAVENDISH RELATED NEWS
Vermonters Need $21 per hour to Afford Rent: The National Low-Income Housing Coalition, which released the report, ranks Vermont as the 13th-most expensive in the country for renters — the same as last year. A Vermonter working at the $9.15 minimum wage would need to put in 70 hours per week to live in a one-bedroom home, according to the report, titled “Out of Reach.” The reports says Vermonters need to earn $20.68 per hour to rent a two-bedroom home. In Windsor County, the average is $19.56.

VTel Rolls Out 10 Gbps Internet: VTel today introduced 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps) Internet available to every VTel home. “We were proud four years ago to initiate first-in-Vermont 1 Gigabit Internet, at a billion-bits-per-second, at $35 a month” said VTel Chief Technology Officer Justin Robinson. “We’re even more delighted today to announce first-in-Vermont 10 Gbps Internet.” Note that VTel, which is suppose to be offering wireless service to Cavendish, is planning to build towers on Okemo and in Cavendish this month. Unfortunately, when completed speeds will be slower and costs higher than services offered to their landline customers.

2. TIEMANN’S CAVENDISH MEMOIRS CHAPTER 14/RECIPE
In Chapter 14,  Tiemann describes sugar-on-snow parties as well as welcoming peepers and the arrival of spring after the coldest winter on record. Following this chapter, there is a recipe for making sugar-on-snow, which can be modified for the summer days by pouring over ice cream versus snow. To read the prelude and other chapters of Tiemann’s Memoirs go to Coming to Vermont (Cavendish): Memoirs of Philip Tiemann.
