DESCRIPTION: On Sept ember 13, 1848 Phineas Gage, a foreman, was working with his crew excavating rocks in preparing the bed for the Rutland and Burlington Railroad in Cavendish. An accidental explosion of a charge he had set blew his tamping iron through his head. He not only survived his accident, but lived for 11 more years and ushered in a new era that would become known as neuroscience.
The Annual Phineas Gage Walk & Talk begins at the Museum and visits various sites pertaining to the accident and his recovery. The walk is over a mile and a half. Walking shoes are recommended.
