Two Finalists Selected for the Cavendish Town Elementary School Interim Principal Position

The Cavendish Town Elementary School Search Committee has selected two finalists to meet students, faculty, staff, community members and the Green Mountain Unified School District (GMUSD) Board. The finalists have been invited to the school on April 11, 2018. On Wednesday and Friday of this week, the finalists met with groups of students, faculty, and staff. On April 17th, the finalists will be interviewed by school board members.
Community members from Cavendish and Proctorsville are invited to meet our finalists on April 11th at 6:30 p.m. We will greet all community members who come to our school and assign you to a classroom. The finalists will be located in a classroom and community members at CTES will have the opportunity to meet with each candidate for thirty minutes. Community members will switch classrooms every thirty minutes to meet both finalists.
Thirteen candidates applied for the principal’s position with six candidates who were qualified. The Search Committee vetted those six candidates and selected two to interview. Prior to initial interviews, one candidate accepted another position. After the initial interview, the application process was reopened. Three additional candidates applied. One candidate met the qualifications and was interviewed. Both candidates were moved forward to a second round of interviews. Following the second round of interviews, the Principal Search Committee selected both candidates as finalists. The two candidates include: Madeline Carlock of West Lebanon, New Hampshire and Joseph Smith of Swanzey, NH.
A brief background –
Ms. Carlock is currently serving as an instructional coach for the Hartford, VT School District. Prior to this position she was an English-Language Arts & Humanities teacher, and a first, second and fourth grade teacher for the Hartford, Vermont school district. She also was a fifth grade immersion teacher at the American International School in Vietnam.
Mr. Smith is currently the school counselor at the Westminster school in Vermont. Prior to this position, Mr. Smith was the principal at Cutler Elementary School and Monadnock Regional High School. He has also held the positions of assistant principal, guidance counselor and history teacher at Monadnock Regional High School.
Please join us to welcome our finalists to the Cavendish Town Elementary School. Community members are invited to arrive at 6:25 p.m. for classroom assignments. After you meet with the candidates, we will ask for your feedback at the end of each session. Your feedback will be shared with the GMUSD Board of Directors on April 17th.
