He has a degree in fisheries biology and is a life long birder who has birded extensively over the years in the Northeast, Southeast and Southwest regions of the United States. The walk will start at 731 Stevens Road in Cavendish off Greenbush Road, through a wooded area and open fields. It is a moderate hike. Please be prepared with long pants, good walking shoes and whatever you deem necessary for warding off ticks. Bring your binoculars and your curiosity! Tom will also discuss human and wildlife conflicts in general and other services USDA Wildlife Services provides to the public. Tom Geider has been a Wildlife Specialist with USDA Wildlife Services since 2017. He currently works with the Vt. Culvert Crawlers: Students from the University of Vermont and Dartmouth came to the Black River Valley to work with Black River Action Team’s (BRAT) Culvert Crawlers program and Cavendish Connects. Paving: An RFP has been issued for repaving on Depot St. in Proctorsille and Quent Phelan Road.

Events Planning: Trevor Barlow, who owns the former Crows Corner building on Depot St in Proctorsville, talked to the board about a series of events he’d like to hold in an effort to bring more people into the area. ArtEscape: The Cavendish Historical Society, Cavendish Connects, the Cavendish Library and Trevor Barlow, a business owner and member of the Cavendish Community Fund (CCF) are seeking a VT Humanities Grant to hold a series of events throughout the year including a film series as well as art related workshops.

Commemorating America’s Semiquencentennial (250 years): While activities are underway honoring the 250th anniversary of the start of the American Revolutionary War, the Governor has asked all towns to plan activities for the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. Cavendish needs to decide how this will be celebrated.

2. APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS WORKSHOP: Actually it was a snow storm, causing the cancellation of the Cavendish Historical Society’s (CHS) April Paper Flower workshop. To celebrate springtime, CHS has rescheduled the workshop for May 10, from 10-12 at the Cavendish Community Library in Proctorsville.

Participants can make a wide variety of flowers from various types of paper. Since the celebrations are now underway celebrating the 250th anniversary (Semiquincentennial) of the start of the Revolutionary War-Cavendish has many Patriots buried here-it’s a good time to learn how to make a wide array of red, white and blue flowers.

The workshop is free, open to the public with projects for all ages and abilities and has been made possible in part thanks to the Cavendish Community Fund. FMI: margocaulfield@icloud.com or 802-226-7807.

The 15th Annual Cavendish Town-Wide Tag Sale will be held on Saturday July 26, 2025 from 9-2.

                                                            April 22, 2025

Two weeks prior to the sale, we post vendor item pictures on the Cavendish, VT Facebook page.

The Cavendish Town Wide Tag Sale began in 2011 as part of the town’s 250th anniversary’s yearlong celebration. Because it was such a hit, Cavendish Connects has continued to sponsor it. It takes quite a bit of time to coordinate this event, therefore we are asking the Cavendish community to help support Cavendish Connects by making a donation now, the day of the sale or shortly thereafter, which can be done from the CC’s donation page

The following information is provided for vendors:

• The sale will be concentrated along Main Street (Route 131), with both village greens available.

•  Anyone setting up on a village green is responsible for bringing all supplies and removing all trash and items that did not sell by the end of the day.

• Secondary areas will be off High Street in Cavendish Village and Route 103, Twenty Mile Stream and Depot Street in Proctorsville. Those along High Street, Route 103, Twenty Mile or other areas should think about signage.

• Signage will go up two weeks before the event.

• Vendors from other towns can participate in the sale but they must pre-register and pay a fee of $15.

• Those who wish to register for space at the Greens, or have their site listed on the vendor list (on-line only) should send an e-mail to cavendishconnects@gmail.com or call 802-226-7807. Please note that the more information you can provide about what you have for sale, the more shoppers you will attract.
